Rechargeable batteries are cost effective source of constant power; In the modern world, improvement of modern electronic devices and the increased demand of portable devices by consumers, the market of rechargeable battery growing rapidly.
What is a rechargeable battery? It is a group of secondary cells, which stores electric power and capable, to recharge later for further use. The main reason of its popularity is – it is very much cost effective rather then disposable batteries.
Now, manufacturers develop their products that have incredible battery life, but still there are some matters, which affect the rechargeable battery life. They are – the components of battery, total number of use, temperature, humidity and overall environmental conditions.
Rechargeable batteries are commonly manufactured with – nickel and cadmium (NiCD) and nickel metal hydrides (NiMH). This kind of batteries has tended to discharge faster in lower temperature. Conversely, the life of a rechargeable battery depends on the number of uses. Another reason of lower battery life is – overcharging. Overcharging may cause leakage.
Rechargeable batteries can be classified under following categories –
NiMH – this type of battery perfect for cell phones, camcorders, digital cameras.
NiCD – is less powerful then NiMH, but it has the advantages like – it will provide the same voltage level through out its life span and less costly from NiMH.
Rechargeable battery is environment friendly and comes with different shapes and capacities.
